Press Statement
Gender Strategy Advancement International condemns the gruesome murder of the Labour Party Women Leader in Kaduna, Mrs Victoria Chintex who was shot by gunmen in her residence in Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State. We urge the Police to undertake an exhaustive investigation and bring perpetrators to book without delay.
It is regrettable that this incident occured during the globally recognized 16 Days of Activism campaign to end gender based violence. It is on this note we call on all political parties to take issues of gender based violence seriously and be more deliberate in tackling it by chastising politicians for engaging in pre election violence and reaffirm that no amount of intimidation will stop women for demanding their rights to participation in governance.
We also call unto all CSOs to make advocacy on ending violence against women online and off line a priority especially ahead of the 2023 elections.
GSAI will continue to encourage women in politics and the voices seeking for effective leadership not to deterred or cowered. Women’s rights are human rights and the participation of women in decision making and politics is a necessary pillar for a true democracy.
Signed
